                   Medical Coding is the transformation of a patient's  medical diagnosis, prescriptions and treatments received into alphanumeric codes. Medical Coders uses a set of recognised codes for coding purposes. International Classification of Diseases or ICD codes are set of codes published and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes contain signs, symptoms of a disease, cure and more. For example ICD code, D56.9 denotes thalassemia.

                    Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder caused when the body doesn't make enough of  a protein called hemoglobin, an important part of red blood cells. Thalassemia is a treatable disorder that can be well managed with blood transfusions and chelation therapy.

              A blood or bone marrow transplant, also called a hematopoietic stem cells transplant, replaces blood forming stem cells that aren't working properly with healthy donor cells. A stem cell transplant is the only treatment that can cure thalassemia.
