MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the process of assigning numeric or alphanumeric codes to medical diagnoses and procedures, and entering them into a computerized record system.
Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures.
International Classification of Disease are set of codes published and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes contains diagnosis diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal behavior findings on a patient. For instance ICD code, G81.9 denotes hemiplegia.
Hemiplegia is a neurological condition characterized by paralysis of one side of the body. It is caused by damage to the brain, usually in the motor cortex or in the brain stem. Symptoms may include paralysis of the arm, leg, face, and/or other parts of the body, as well as weakness, altered sensation, and a reduced ability to move. Treatment may include physical therapies, medications, and surgery.
