MEDICAL CODING

                       Medical Coding is the process of using standardized coding systems to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures in order to accurately track and report healthcare services.

Qualities of a medical coder :

1. Attention to Detail: Medical coders must pay close attention to detail when they are coding and must be able to spot any errors or inconsistencies in a patient's medical records.   

2. Knowledge of Medical Terminology: Since they are coding medical records and documents, medical coders must be familiar with the language and terminology of medicine.  

3. Organizational Skills: Medical coders must be organized and able to prioritize tasks in order to ensure that all documents are coded in a timely manner. 

4. Computer Proficiency: Medical coders must be proficient in using computers and familiar with coding software. 

5. Analytical Thinking: Medical coders must be able to analyze medical records and documents in order to accurately code them. 

6. Interpersonal Skills: Medical coders must have good communication skills in order to interact with other healthcare professionals and obtain any additional information they may need.
