               Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

Duties of a medical coder: 

 1. Review patient records to ensure accuracy and completeness. 
2. Assign appropriate codes to diagnoses and treatments using the ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.  
3. Enter codes into the hospital's information system. 
4. Verify coding accuracy and completeness by cross-checking information against medical records and other documentation. 
5. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding systems and standards. 
6. Monitor and update coding systems to ensure accuracy and compliance. 
7. Monitor coding trends for potential areas of improvement.
 8. Assist with reimbursement activities, such as submitting claims and appealing denials. 
9. Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure accuracy in medical records. 
10. Assist with compliance activities, such as conducting audits and preparing compliance reports.
