                 Medical coding is the process of assigning medical codes to documentation in a patient's medical record for reimbursement and data collection purposes.

                           There certain codes used for coding purpose which includes, CPT, HCPCS and ICD. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is a globally used diagnostic tool for epidemiology, health management, and clinical purposes. It is developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is used to classify diseases and other health problems recorded on many types of health and vital records including death certificates and health records. The ICD enables health providers to classify and code symptoms and diagnoses, and is designed to promote international comparability in the collection, processing, classification, and presentation of health statistics.  

                          ICD code E03.5 denotes Myxedema Coma. Myxedema coma is a rare and life-threatening complication of untreated hypothyroidism. It is a type of metabolic coma, or coma caused by a metabolic disorder, that occurs when there is an extreme deficiency of thyroid hormones in the body. It is a medical emergency and requires immediate hospitalization and treatment. Signs and symptoms of myxedema coma include decreased mental alertness, confusion, slurred speech, shallow breathing, low body temperature, and an abnormally slow heart rate. Other symptoms may include swollen hands and feet, dry skin, constipation, and poor circulation. Treatment for myxedema coma involves the administration of intravenous thyroid hormone replacement and supportive care, such as warming and oxygenation, to improve blood circulation and body temperature.
